Our first job of 2018 was this poorly Lexus IS220D that had a horrendous flat spot at low rpm and barely any power below 2500RPM.
The customer requested a carbon clean to see if this would help….. Rather than just carrying out the carbon clean on its own we looked at live data first and were pretty sure that the EGR valve was stuck open (No fault codes were present) so we removed the EGR valve first….
The EGR valve was indeed stuck open and the amount of carbon build up was way past the capabilities of any carbon clean machine! We cleaned the EGR and made sure it was fully seated, carried out our carbon clean and also added a bottle of JLM professional diesel fuel system cleaner. The car now drives lovely again
